Gurugram hit-and-run victim Sia broke her silence in a video message shared on Instagram late Monday, directly countering claims made by accused Kalyan Bainsla. Sia said the incident was clearly captured on video and questioned the accused’s account of what happened. “He is saying that we were riding the bike very fast on purpose and that we were trying to provoke him,” she said, adding that the footage “clearly shows who was actually provoking whom”.
She also asked: “Even if you think we were speeding or slowing down, what right does that give you to chase me?”
‘He Knew A Girl Was Riding’
Sia also rejected Bainsla’s claim that he did not know a woman was riding the bike. “Obviously, that cannot be true,” she said, pointing out that he could see her long hair tied in a ponytail. She alleged that he continued to chase her and told her to stop the bike.
Referring to the available footage, Sia said one video showed the car moving across lanes before hitting her, while another camera mounted on her Aprilia RS 457 captured the collision. “Everything about the incident has been clearly captured on video,” she said.
She also questioned why Bainsla did not stop immediately after the crash. “If you hit me, you should have stopped, checked on me and made sure I was not injured,” she said.
‘I Could Have Died On The Spot’
Sia said the consequences could have been far more serious. “What if there had been a difference of just two or three seconds? I could have suffered serious injuries, broken my bones or even died on the spot,” she said.
Taking aim at Bainsla’s public comments after the incident, Sia said: “I do not think this sympathy game suits him.” She also said she was “ashamed” of people who speak about their own families without considering the safety of women on the roads.
“Many women genuinely feel unsafe on the roads of Gurugram and Delhi,” she said.
The incident took place on Golf Course Road, where a car allegedly struck Sia’s motorcycle, sending her skidding several metres. Bainsla has admitted the collision was his fault but denied deliberately hitting her, saying he feared an attack after the crash.
Accused Says Collision Accidental
Bainsla, a gym owner who describes himself as an international kabaddi player, told a news channel that he was travelling with his sister and two cousins when the incident occurred.
“I was travelling with my family. I didn’t make any gestures at the young woman; I simply asked her to ride her bike slowly. I admit that a collision occurred. Had I stopped right then, those people would have beaten us up,” he told the news channel.
Bainsla claimed that about 20 to 22 motorcyclists had sped past him and he did not initially realise that a young woman was among them. He said he had asked her and a man accompanying her to slow down.
“She was turning without checking her mirrors; just then, near a U-turn, I lost control of the car, and the collision occurred. It was my fault; I admit it,” he said.
Gurugram Police has taken suo motu cognisance of the incident and is registering a case under Sections 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police have identified the accused and formed three teams to apprehend him.
