At least four people were killed and several others sustained injuries after a three-storey under-construction building collapsed in Haryana’s Ambala on Sunday.

A major rescue operation has been launched at the building collapse site in Dhulkot village.

Officials have not yet been able to establish the exact number of people trapped inside the collapsed structure. Preliminary estimates suggest that around 15 to 20 people could be trapped beneath the rubble, although the exact number has not yet been confirmed, Ambala City SDM Darshan Kumar said.

Ambala Building Collapse: NDRF, SDRF Roped In For Rescue Operations

The SDM said rescue teams, including the NDRF, SDRF, fire brigade and local ambulance services, have been deployed to search for those trapped under the debris.

“All teams—including the NDRF, SDRF, local ambulance services, and the fire brigade—are deployed at the site. So far, several people have been hospitalized; four have already been discharged, and five are currently undergoing treatment,” Kumar told reporters.

“Two bodies have been recovered,” Kumar said, adding that several people have been taken to hospital. Four injured people have been discharged, while five others are currently undergoing treatment.

According to the SDM, 12 people have so far been identified, including those who died in the incident. Rescue personnel continue to clear the debris and search for survivors.

Ambala Building Collapse: Building Owner Absconding

Soon after the building collapse, the SDM had rushed to the spot to assess the situation and called it a “very tragic incident.”

The circumstances leading to the collapse are yet to be established. Kumar said the ownership details of the building were still being ascertained. He added that both the contractor and the building owner had left the site.

Authorities said appropriate legal action would be taken against those found responsible for the incident. Rescue and relief operations remain underway as teams continue their search through the debris.
