About the Author:

Anjana S. Rao is a working professional, a devotee, and a seeker whose heart finds expression through poetry and spiritual reflection. Unfollowed by the World, Followed by You is her second book, following her debut Choice is Yours. Her life journey taught her that every path and moment carries a divine reason. Choosing the spiritual way has brought her closer to Kṛṣṇa. By God’s grace, her family too are devoted to Lord Kṛṣṇa and have built a temple in His name. Deeply inspired by the Bhagavad Gītā, Rāmāyaṇa, and Śrīmad Bhāgavatam, she continues to learn, write, and live in surrender to His love.

Exclusive interview with the author

Q: What Inspired You To Write This Book?

A: Some days the emotions were too heavy. I would write a sentence and stop, because it felt like reliving the moment. But every time I paused, Krishna gave me the strength to continue.

Q: Can You Tell Us About The Book?

A: My book is not just writing. It is a collection of poetry and heartfelt letters to Krishna — born from moments when words became prayers and prayers became surrender. Every page carries a whisper of the scriptures that shaped my heart: the Bhagavad Gita’s wisdom, the Bhagavatham’s tender devotion, and the Vishnu Puran’s eternal stories. These texts did not just inspire me… they held me, guided me, and sometimes healed me. Each poem began as a feeling I couldn’t express to anyone… so I wrote it to Krishna. Each letter began as a confession, a gratitude, or a cry… and slowly these small pieces of my inner world gathered together until they formed a book. I didn’t sit down thinking, “I will write a book.” I simply sat down thinking, “I need to speak to Him.” And somehow, those conversations with Krishna became chapters. Those emotions became verses. Those quiet moments became offerings. What you see today is not a book written by me— it is a book written through me, by His grace, inspired by His words, and guided by His presence.

Q: What Does The Title Mean?

A: The title reflects a simple spiritual truth: Sometimes the world may ignore you, misunderstand you, or walk away… but in that very moment, Krishna comes closer. “Unfollowed by the world” means: when people don’t see your worth, your pain, or your journey. “Followed by You” means: Krishna never leaves. He follows your heart, your struggles, your prayers— even when no one else does. It is a reminder that: Losing the world is not a loss. Gaining Krishna is everything.

Q: Where Do You Get Your Greatest Ideas For Writing?

A: My greatest ideas come from life, emotions, and devotion. Sometimes from personal experiences, sometimes from observing the world, and often from Krishna and the scriptures—the Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavatham, and Vishnu Purana inspire me deeply. Most of all, ideas flow when I sit quietly, reflect, and listen to my heart.

Q: What Advice Would You Give To Aspiring Authors?

A: Advice to Aspiring Authors Start from the heart – write what moves you, not what you think will sell. Be patient – writing is a journey; every word teaches you something. Keep learning – read widely, observe life, and reflect deeply. Trust your voice – even small steps matter, and your unique perspective is valuable. Most importantly, write with sincerity and passion, and let your words flow naturally.

Q: What Did You Learn When Writing The Book?

A: While writing this book, I realised one simple truth: I cannot do anything without Krishna. Every poem, every letter showed me that my strength is limited, but His grace is endless. And slowly I understood… I must completely surrender at His lotus feet. Writing taught me to let go, trust Him, and say, “Krishna, I am Yours. Guide me.” This book didn’t just teach me devotion— it taught me surrender.

Q: How Long Does It Take You To Write A Book?

A: I never counted the days. Every day, I would simply sit and write whatever my heart wanted to say to Krishna. Some days it was a poem… some days it was a letter… but every day it was Him guiding me. And one day, I suddenly felt, “This is not just writing anymore… this should become a book.” From that moment, I put everything together and submitted it to the publisher. In total, the whole journey took around 60 days— not planned, not calculated… just grace, one day at a time.

Q: Where Do You Get Your Information Or Ideas For Your Books?

A: So many people have lived, learned, and transformed through our great spiritual treasures — the Ramayana, Mahabharata, Bhagavad Gita, and Vishnu Purana. These scriptures guide every generation, showing us how to live, how to love, and how to surrender to Krishna.

Q: When Did You Write Your First Book And How Old Were You?

A: In 2022, when I was 35 years old, I wrote my first book titled “Choice Is Yours.” That book was the beginning of my inner journey… the first step that eventually led me closer to Krishna and to writing my new devotional book today.

Q:How Many Books Have You Written? Which Is Your Favourite?

A: I have written only two books. I am not a big author — just someone who took two small, honest steps from the heart. “Choice Is Yours” was my first book. It is the story of a woman, her struggles, and how we learn to stand strong through life’s challenges. My second book is completely different — it is my offering to Krishna, a collection of poems and letters written with devotion. I cannot say which one is my favourite… because both taught me something precious. One taught me about life, and the other taught me about surrender. So I cherish them both.

Q: How Did Publishing Your First Book Change Your Process Of Writing?

A: The process began with my first book, “Choice Is Yours.” That book came from understanding life — how women face struggles, how we rise again, and how every challenge shapes us. It was written from strength, experience, and real-life lessons. But after finishing that book… something inside me shifted. The more I faced life, the closer I moved toward Krishna. And slowly, my writing changed — from stories of the world to conversations with the Divine. That is how “Unfollowed by the World, Followed by You” was born. This second book is not about life’s choices — it is about surrender. Not about facing the world — but about being held by Krishna when the world doesn’t understand you. One book taught me courage. The other taught me devotion. “Choice Is Yours” showed me how to stand. “Unfollowed by the World, Followed by You” showed me how to kneel at His lotus feet. Both are different… but both shaped my heart.

Q: What Does Success Mean To You? What Is The Definition Of Success?

A: What Does Success Mean to Me? Success, to me, is not measured by fame, applause, or how many people notice your journey. Success is much quieter… much softer. Success is when your heart becomes closer to Krishna. When you choose truth over comfort. When you rise after every fall. When you stay kind even when the world is not. When you do your duty without losing your devotion. Success is not what the world sees. Success is what Krishna sees in you. It is the peace that comes when you know: “I tried my best… and I placed the rest at His lotus feet.” That, to me, is the real definition of success.

Q: Which Of Your Books Were The Most Enjoyable To Write?

A: This book has 55 chapters, but the one closest to my heart is the heartfelt letter from Sudhama to Krishna. I don’t even know how to fully explain it… but every time I read it, every time I imagine Sudhama speaking to his dearest friend, I shed tears. There is something so pure, so innocent, so full of love in that letter— it touches me every single time. Among all the chapters, this one feels like a blessing I received, not something I wrote.

Q: Tell Us About Your First Published Book? What Was The Journey Like?

A: My first book, “Choice Is Yours,” was born from real struggles and the strength a woman finds in her toughest moments. Writing it was healing, and it taught me so much about courage. But after publishing, it didn’t get much recognition… and for a while, I felt I had failed. Later, I realised it wasn’t a failure at all. That book prepared my heart, shaped me, and quietly guided me toward Krishna — toward writing my second book. Sometimes a book doesn’t succeed outside, but it succeeds inside you.

Q: How Important Is Research To You When Writing A Book?

A: Research is very important to me, especially when I write. It helps me stay true to the message, understand the subject deeply, and give readers something meaningful and authentic. Even for devotional writing, I always read, learn, and reflect — so that whatever I write comes from truth and sincerity.
