A woman was burnt alive inside a car at Chemmanmukku here on Tuesday. Kollam East police have arrested the woman’s husband, Padmarajan, in connection with the incident.

While Thazhuthala resident Anila died on spot, Sony, another person who was travelling in the same car, sustained serious burns. The incident took place around 9 p.m. near Christ Raj School on the road to Kapplandimukku. According to witnesses, Padmarajan blocked the car with the omni van he was driving and threw something inside the car. “The car caught fire immediately and a couple of blasts followed. As both the vehicles were on fire, we had to wait for the Fire and Rescue Services team to arrive. It was not possible for us to rescue the victims,” said a witness. Reportedly, Padmarajan used a can of petrol to orchastrate his plan.
