Workshop on socio-hydrology held

A one-day workshop titled ‘Socio-hydrology for sustaining river and ecosystem health’ was organised by the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C), at Thanneermukkom on Monday.

It was inaugurated by District Collector Alex Varghese.

The focus of the workshop was Kuttanad and Vembanad Lake. In his inaugural address, Mr. Varghese highlighted the importance of the Vembanad Lake ecosystem, the challenges and problems residents of the area face and the issues requiring urgent attention. He also presented a brief outline of the activities currently undertaken by the Alappuzha district administration to address some of these issues.

The event was a follow-up of the International Conference on River Resilience 2025 (ICRR 2025) held at NIT-C last week in collaboration with the Department of Water Management, TU Delft, The Netherlands.
