2 labourers buried under mud while laying pipes in Belagavi

Two labourers died when mud caved while they were digging a channel to lay drinking water pipes in Belagavi on April 16. The deceased hail from Gokak.

Basavaraj Sarave, 38, and Maruti Sarave, 20, of Patagondi village died after getting caught under layers of mud. Police, and fire and emergency personnel were able to dig out two bodies. Their bodies have been sent to the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences.

One labourer managed to survive the mud slide. Efforts were underway to rescue him.

The labourers were digging a channel near the national highway at Gandhi Nagar.

The work was commissioned by a private agency responsible for round-the-clock water supply scheme in the city.

Officers from the Mal Maruti police station visited the spot.
