Over 76 per cent of seats have been filled at the end of the third round of Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) counselling session as the TNEA issued provisional allotment for upward students for the third round on Wednesday.
The candidates would be required to join the respective colleges on or before August 29. The fees paid by them and the certificates submitted at the TNEA facilitation centres will be sent to the respective colleges. A TNEA release stated that as many as 52,168 provisional allotments were issued during round three of which, 2,075 were to students belonging to the government school (7.5 per cent) category.
The release added that a total of 1,45,481 provisional allotments has been issued to candidates in the three rounds of counselling, including those coming under the special reservation category.
At the end of three rounds of counselling for the general and the government school categories, over 1.43 lakh seats have been filled, indicating an increase of around eight per cent in intake compared to last year, according to R. Ashwin, independent education counsellor. Moreover, 39 colleges in the State have recorded 100 per cent intake, which is a considerable increase compared to 29 last year. “This means that the preference for engineering education has been high among students this year,” he observed.
Coimbatore region emerged as the top preference for students this year followed by Chennai region, Mr. Ashwin added. While Computer Science and Engineering remained the top preference for most students, the second most preferred course this year was Electronics and Communication Engineering followed by Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, he said.
