Jailer 2 Is a Rajini Rave! How Nelson Gets the Superstar Right | 3D Movie Review Ep 1

Is Jailer 2 just a mass entertainer, or has Nelson figured out the secret to making Rajinikanth the ultimate superstar actor ? Welcome to 3D — Deep Dive Deconstruction, a new series where Sudhish Kamath breaks down the biggest releases of the season, block by block, to geek out over the storytelling, filmmaking choices and ideas beneath the spectacle.
In the first episode, we’re taking a deep dive into Jailer 2 and why I loved it. Two words: Rajini Rave.
From the iconic Rajinikanth grammar of Baashha, Annamalai and Padayappa to Nelson’s irreverent dark humour, elaborate set-ups, ingenious payoffs and colourful gallery of rogues, we examine how the filmmaker turns a star vehicle into a celebration of cinema itself.
We look at how Nelson balances comedy with genuine emotional stakes, why consequences drive the story, how he uses cameos to solve narrative problems, and why Rajinikanth’s vulnerability matters as much as his larger-than-life aura.
