Bangladesh Election 2026 LIVE: BNP Declares Victory, Jamaat-e-Islami ‘Not Satisfied With Results’
Bangladesh Election Results 2026 LIVE Updates: The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Friday claimed that it had secured a majority in the 2026 parliamentary elections and is preparing to form the next government.
The elections in Bangladesh took place nearly 18 months after the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina following student-led protests in July 2024.
As the unofficial tallies continue to come in from Thursday’s voting, it is clear that the BNP, led by Tarique Rahman, has registered its victory over 200 seats in the 300-member Jatiya Sangsad, or House of the Nation.
The election was a direct contest between the BNP and its former ally, Jamaat-e-Islami. Meanwhile, ousted premier Sheikh Hasina‘s Awami League remained out of the battle as it was banned from contesting.
