Bangladesh Frees Protesters, Hasina Rival Khaleda Zia As 56 Killed In Violence, Military Ends Curfew – News18

Over 50 people were killed in Bangladesh on August 5 as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted and protesters stormed her official residence. President Mohammed Shahabuddin ordered the release of jailed former prime minister and key opposition leader Khaleda Zia. A meeting led by Shahabuddin “decided unanimously” to free the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson”, his office said. Chiefs of the army, navy and airforce and top leaders of several opposition parties including the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami party, attended the meeting. “The meeting has also decided to free all the people who have been arrested during the student protests,” Shahabuddin’s office said. Celebrations erupted in Dhaka as PM Sheikh Hasina resigned, ending her 15 years in power. Watch the video to know the latest updates on Bangladesh crisis.
