A Class XI student died after allegedly falling from the 10th floor of an apartment building in Bhubaneswar while attempting to escape from his girlfriend’s residence.
The deceased has been identified as Rafan Khurshid, a student of a private school and a resident of the city’s Laxmisagar area.
According to preliminary findings, Rafan had reportedly visited his girlfriend at her apartment when he allegedly feared that her mother had discovered his presence. In an apparent attempt to leave the flat unnoticed, he tried to climb down using a drainage pipe attached to the building.
Police said the pipe reportedly gave way after he remained suspended from it for some time, causing him to plunge from the 10th floor.
Rafan sustained critical injuries in the fall and was declared dead following the incident.
His father is employed as a manager at a private bank.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. Investigators are questioning members of the girl’s family and examining other evidence to establish the sequence of events leading up to the fatal fall.
