Assam BJP MLAs meet May 10 to elect CM, Himanta Biswa Sarma expected to return, swearing-in set for May 12 in Guwahati after NDA wins 102 of 126 Assembly seats

After West Bengal, the swearing-in ceremony of the new Assam government will be held on May 12, said Assam caretake chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday
The BJP MLAs Legislature Party will meet in Guwahati on May 10 to elect the new CM who will head the next government in Assam after the NDA’s decisive victory in the Assembly elections.
Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia said the meetings will be attended by BJP national president Nitin Nabin and Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini, who have been appointed as central observers for the leadership election.
The BJP-led NDA retained power in the state with a massive mandate, winning 102 seats in the 126-member Assembly. The BJP secured 82 seats, while allies AGP and BOPF won 10 seats each.
Swearing-In Ceremony Of Assam CM To Be Held On May 12
Though the formal election of the legislature party leader is scheduled for May 10, Himanta Biswa Sarma is widely expected to return for a second consecutive term. Assam BJP chief Dilip Saikia has already announced that Sarma will take oath as chief minister on May 12.
The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be held at the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara in Guwahati, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi likely to attend the event. BJP leaders said preparations were underway for a large public gathering at the venue.
