Cyclone Ditwah Tracker Live Updates: As Cyclone Ditwah moves closer to the coastal region of Tamil Nadu, Chennai Airport has cancelled 47 flights scheduled for Sunday due to the anticipated heavy rain. Of the cancelled flights, 36 are domestic and 11 are international.
Furthermore, the airport authorities have advised passengers travelling on Sunday to check with their respective airlines for confirmation of departure timings, as more flights may be cancelled if the cyclone intensifies.
The cancelled domestic flights include 18 departing flights from Chennai to Madurai, Tiruchi, Thoothukudi, and Salem and 18 arriving flights from the same cities to Chennai.
Among the international flights, six departures from Chennai to Colombo (5 flights) and Jaffna (1 flight) have been cancelled, along with five arrivals—four from Colombo and one from Jaffna.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry. Strong winds and heavy rainfall lashed the coastal regions of these regions on Saturday.
