Q: What Inspired You To Write This Book?

A: During the ICU counseling sessions, I have often observed that the family members of patients are always anxious because of unfamiliar ICU environment and they have multiple queries regarding treatment. Doctors can not spend entire day to clarify their doubts. If they have been educated about basic ICU procedures and treatment options, their anxiety can be relieved. To spread awareness about ICU, it is important to clarify all common doubts and questions in simple language. This thought had inspired me to write a book which can be ultimate guide for patient’s, their families and anyone who wants understand everything about ICU in simplified language.

Q: Can You Tell Us About The Book?

A: This book can be a great companion to the people who are sitting outside the ICU while their loved one is getting treated in the ICU. The book provides basic information about all ICU equipment and procedures. This book is written in question and answer format to make the information easier to understand. It also contains basic information about most common diseases for which patients may need ICU admission. Real life conversations between doctors and patient’s families can provide confidence and clarity to patient’s relatives because they are already aware about basic information regarding ICU procedures. This book gives all necessary information about ICU related queries.

Q: What Does The Title Mean?

A: “ICU Demystified” is self explanatory. This book gives complex medical information about ICU in simplified language which is easier to understand for people without any medical knowledge.

Q: How Long Does It Take You To Write A Book?

A: It took almost 6 months to formulate the questions and answers related to ICU. With full-time clinical work at hospital, it was difficult to write constantly, hence I found writing as a lengthy process but eventually we must finish what we have started.

Q: What Did You Learn When Writing The Book?

A: As I started writing this book, I came across multiple questions asked by patient’s family members when the patient is extremely sick. I understood that the families may have multiple questions even after a detailed counseling session.
