A fire broke out in the B-1 coach of Train No. 12431 Thiruvananthapuram–Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express on Sunday, prompting emergency action by railway authorities. According to ANI, the incident took place between Luni Richha (LNR) and Vikramgarh Alot (VMA) in the Down direction under the West Central Railway’s Kota Division.
The incident has affected train service in the route.
Passengers safely evacuated
Railway officials said all passengers travelling in the affected coach were safely deboarded soon after the fire was detected. No injuries or casualties were reported among passengers or railway staff.
The fire was reported near the SLR end of the B-1 coach at Km 729/02 (Loco) and 728/14-16 (SLR). Authorities immediately cut the overhead electric (OHE) supply as a precautionary measure.
The affected B-1 coach was later detached from the train rake to prevent the fire from spreading further.
Railway employees and senior officers rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident. Firefighting operations were launched immediately and officials said efforts were continuing to fully control the situation.
As a result of the incident, Train No. 12955 was temporarily halted at Mahidpur Road (MEP). Officials said the railway section affected by the fire would be cleared shortly to restore normal train movement.
What we know about the fire?
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Saurabh Jain says, “This morning at 5.15 am, a fire incident was reported in Train No. 12431, the Rajdhani Express travelling from Thiruvananthapuram to Nizamuddin, specifically in the rear SLR and B1 coach of the Kota division. Upon noticing the fire, railway staff promptly evacuated all passengers, separated the affected coach from the rest of the train, and informed the fire brigade, state administration, and railway authorities. Immediate action ensured the safety of all passengers. The fire has been almost completely controlled.”
“Three fire brigade units, ambulances, and civil administration are on-site, working collaboratively. Railway officials have arrived, and additional coaches are being arranged from Kota. The remaining portion of the train is expected to depart within 30 to 45 minutes, after which track restoration will begin. This incident has caused some regulation of trains in both directions, affecting approximately 5 to 6 trains… Passengers are advised to contact the railway website or helpline at 139 for any information,” he added.
Probe underway
The West Central Railway’s Kota Division said the exact cause of the fire was yet to be determined. An investigation has been launched to find out what triggered the blaze in the Rajdhani Express coach.
The Thiruvananthapuram–Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express is one of the important long-distance premium trains connecting Kerala with the national capital.
