An officer of Shornur railway police station told reporters that the accused – Kaja Hussain – stole a mobile phone worth Rs 80,000 two days ago from a woman travelling on the Manguluru Central intercity SF express.
Following the incident, Railway police registered a case under Section 305 (theft in a dwelling house, or means of transportation or place of worship) of the BNS and launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of Hussain, the director-producer of the 2024 Malayalam film ‘Kallanmarude Veedu’.
As the movie was a commercial failure, Hussain incurred huge losses and therefore resorted to theft to make money, police said.
The officer said the investigation so far has revealed that Hussain stole two laptops and a mobile phone worth Rs 1 lakh in the Shornur area. He is also accused of stealing two laptops in Kozhikode. PTI HMP ARI
