Formula E is actively exploring ways to return to India, with CEO Jeff Dodds reaffirming the championship’s interest in the country despite the Hyderabad race being dropped after a single edition in 2023.
The series cancelled the 2024 Hyderabad E-Prix earlier this year, citing a contract breach by the newly elected Telangana government. The event had been part of the all-electric championship’s push into new markets but failed to survive the administrative transition.
Speaking to PTI at a Mahindra Racing event, Dodds said India remains “a massive market” for Formula E, both in terms of audience potential and commercial relevance.
“Just look at the population of India and the passion for both automotive and sport. It’s an incredibly important market to us, and our ambition is to race here again in the future,” Dodds said.
“We will continue to look for the right opportunities to bring our racing product back to India,” he added.
Asked whether Formula E has opened discussions with other state governments for a potential street race, Dodds said ongoing conversations took place through the championship’s operations team led by Alberto Longo, but nothing concrete could be revealed.
“He has a list as long as my arm of cities we’re talking to — and cities approaching us — but nothing I can share today regarding India,” Dodds said.
