Exclusive interview with the author
Q: What Inspired You To Write This Book?
A: The ‘non-fiction fables’ I whispered in the ears of the readers came from personal moments, hidden pain, shifts in cultures and eavesdropped secrets. I have spent much time as a poet and filmmaker studying the different sides of love. I’ve written this book to portray the truth of love, lust and relationships amid the disorder of everyday life today.
Q: Can You Tell Us About The Book?
A: I took a close look at love from its emotional, psychological and social perspectives in 42 individual chapters. This book examines chemistry, betrayal, obsession, healing and the lies we tell to others and sometimes to ourselves. It combines my own thoughts, studies and relatable stories. It’s meant for anyone who has loved hard, been let down or found their feelings hard to understand.
Q: What Does The Title Mean?
A: Love, Lust, Lies and Liaison show the emotions at play. Love is idealistic, lust is instinctive, lies keep us apart and liaison brings these things together. This book, discusses love as beautiful, ugly, sacred and secret, all together.
Q: What Did You Learn When Writing The Book?
A: I learned love is not universal in how it’s expressed. A person’s age, gender and the context around them can change everything in a relationship. Most people experience sorrow since they fall in love that is unrealistic. Through writing this book, I learned it’s important to be patient with your feelings, accept being uncomfortable and let opposing ideas say what they need to say.
Q: Was The Character Inspired By A Real Person?
A: Every truth in Love, Lust, Lies and Liaison comes from real-life events and people. I used a mix of body movements, voices, regrets and moments I have experienced or seen. Unlike a fiction these anonymous characters; they show the emotions and details of lives I’ve been able to notice and understand closely.
Q: How Long Does It Take You To Write A Book?
A: It took me eighteen months to create this one, but the emotions have been building up for years. Some chapters took a week; others demanded months. Writing required emotional stamina. Some talkative days, some silent. It takes an investment of time, understanding and complete emotional openness to write a book.
Q: Do You Try More To Be Original Or To Deliver To Readers What They Want?
A: Originality, always. Often, readers will only recognise what they are searching for once they discover it. I rely on the truth, not what is popular at any given moment. When you write honestly and from your own understanding, people will read what you say. Your writing should show what’s in your heart and not just what you think will sell.
Q: What Is The Most Difficult Part About Writing For You?
A: Emotional exposure. Creating tales of love and betrayal can cause new pain for the writer. Doubt creeps in. Being truly alone for a long stretch has become difficult in the midst of today’s constant noise. But it is most difficult to see when to back off and let the work share its voice on its own.
Q: What Does Success Mean To You? What Is The Definition Of Success?
A: Success is resonance. If your words make a reader recognise themselves, that’s what success means. It’s not really about the praise or accolades, but about what difference you make. If people see themselves in your words or feel supported by them, you have accomplished what you wanted. A strong connexion is the most valuable thing in creative work.
Q: How Important Is Research To You When Writing A Book?
A: It’s essential. Emotion without context is incomplete. I rely on data, research and personal experience to support my writing. Using information from psychology journals or Indian folklore supports the importance of a writer’s work. It encourages workers to think deeply about their feelings.
Q: What Advice Would You Give To Aspiring Authors?
A: Start writing. You don’t need to wait until you have the ideal idea. Don’t fear bad drafts—they’re necessary. Read more than you write. Cut ruthlessly. Write what hurts. And above all, finish. Most people simply give up on their way up.
