Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t done with football yet. Not even close.

On Sunday, the 40-year-old icon was crowned Middle East Player of the Year for the third straight time, brushing aside competition from Salem Al-Dawsari, Riyad Mahrez and former Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema. It was another milestone in a career that simply refuses to fade.

Ronaldo earned the honour after scoring more than 40 goals across all competitions for his Saudi club — numbers that would be impressive at any age, let alone at 40.

But the award was almost secondary to what followed.

Standing on stage, Ronaldo made his ambition unmistakably clear: 1,000 career goals.

“It’s very hard to play more, but my passion is still high,” he said. “I’m ready to keep going. Whether it’s the Middle East or Europe, I love playing football, scoring goals and winning trophies.”

Then came the line that sent the football world buzzing.

“You all know my goal. I want to win more trophies, and I want to score a thousand goals. If I don’t get injured, I will definitely score a thousand goals, Inshallah.”

With just 44 goals to go, the chase has turned into a global countdown. Social media is already awash with trackers, highlight reels and tributes celebrating Ronaldo’s durability, hunger and obsession with goals.

Far from winding down, Ronaldo is still driving forward. He is leading the Saudi Pro League title push, collecting individual honours, and has one eye firmly on what could be a final World Cup appearance in 2026.

At an age when most legends are long retired, Ronaldo is doing something else entirely — turning the impossible into a target.

The road to 1,000 is no longer a dream. It’s a mission.
