The ugly stain of racism continues to plague football. And this time, it’s Lamine Yamal in the spotlight.
The Barcelona star was subjected to racist abuse during his side’s recent clash against Atletico Madrid, a game the Catalans dramatically won 2-1.
Abuse Caught on Camera
A video circulating online shows Yamal being targeted while taking a corner near the Atletico stands.
🚨💣 SHOCKINGAn Atlético Madrid fan shouted this vile racist abuse at Lamine Yamal during a corner kick:

One fan can be heard shouting: “You’re so ugly… Go back to Morocco, you b*stard… Go back there.”
The abuse is particularly jarring given Yamal’s background — eligible to represent Morocco through his heritage, he chose to play for Spain internationally.
Reaction Raises Concern
Despite Barcelona’s late win, Yamal appeared visibly shaken after the final whistle. Cameras captured him walking off the pitch looking upset. He briefly crossed paths with manager Hansi Flick but did not engage, heading straight to the dressing room.
While there’s no official confirmation linking his reaction to the abuse, many observers believe the incident may have affected him.
Not the First Incident
Just days earlier, Yamal had spoken out against anti-Muslim chants during Spain’s friendly against Egypt, calling them “disrespectful and intolerable.”
He added that using religion as an insult makes people appear “ignorant and racist.”
A Wider Problem
Spanish football continues to grapple with repeated incidents of abuse. High-profile stars like Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe have also been subjected to racist chants in recent years.
Authorities and political leaders have condemned such behaviour, but the recurrence of these incidents raises serious questions about whether enough is being done.
