Phagwara Police in Punjab have registered a fresh FIR against unidentified students and non-students in connection with the protest at Lovely Professional University (LPU) and the blockade of the Delhi-Amritsar National Highway.
The case was registered under Section 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 8B of the National Highways Act. So far, a total of three FIRs have been registered in connection with the violence at Lovely Professional University.
According to the details, no individual was named as an accused in the case, and those booked were listed as “unknown”.
Highway Blockade Continued For Over Three Hours
According to the FIR, LPU students blocked both sides of the Delhi-Amritsar National Highway at Chaheru, around 11 km west of Sadar Phagwara police station.
The blockade brought traffic to a halt in both directions and severely affected public life and traffic, the police said.
The FIR stated that the blockade began at around 2 am on September 28 and continued until 5.18 am.

The latest case specifically relates to the highway blockade and comes amid the investigation into violence and vandalism at the LPU campus.
Unverified Claims Of Sexual Assault At Lovely Professional University
The protests at LPU had followed the circulation of an unverified post among students on the night of September 26, claiming that a female student had been raped on the university campus and subsequently sent home.
A BTech student of LPU has since approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court through a public interest litigation (PIL), seeking a CBI probe into the violence and vandalism at the university.
According to the plea, students gathered outside the girls’ hostel after the alleged rape claim circulated and later blocked National Highway-44.
The protest subsequently escalated, with violence and vandalism reported on the university campus.
The PIL alleged that a large number of outsiders, carrying swords, rods and sickles and with their faces covered, entered the LPU campus.
They allegedly broke open the university’s main gates, damaged CCTV cameras, looted shops and set several places on fire.
Shopkeepers Claim Heavy Losses
The unrest also left several shopkeepers at LPU’s Uni Mall claiming heavy financial losses.
A mobile phone shopkeeper alleged that masked miscreants broke open his shop’s lock with iron rods and took away mobile phones, pen drives and memory cards.
He also claimed that CCTV cameras were damaged and the shop’s DVR was taken away.
Another mobile shopkeeper estimated his losses in lakhs of rupees, while a departmental store worker also claimed that cosmetics and other goods were taken away.
Some purported videos also surfaced on social media showing masked people targeting shops. However, a stationery shop on the campus reportedly remained untouched.
The police were examining CCTV footage as part of the investigation into the violence.
Punjab Additional Director General of Police Praveen Sinha said the identity of people seen in visuals was a matter of investigation.
The unrest, meanwhile, led LPU authorities to suspend classes for 10 days, with a large number of students leaving the campus after the decision.
The violence followed the student protest and highway blockade over the allegations concerning the female student.
