Dramatic scenes unfolded at a court complex in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj after a family dispute turned violent. The argument escalated into a physical altercation shortly after a hearing in a maintenance case.

The video of the altercation between a woman, her husband and their relatives has surfaced on social media.

The incident occurred on September 24 at the Family Court in the district headquarters, where Priya Tripathi and her husband Manish Kumar Mishra were present for proceedings related to their dispute.

According to Priya’s complaint, the confrontation began after the hearing when she, her sister Priyanka and father Laxmikant reached the ground-floor hall. She alleged that Manish and a man accompanying him attacked her. Priya claimed that her husband pulled her by the hair, assaulted her and attempted to strangle her. She also alleged that her father and sister were attacked when they intervened, India Today reported.

The situation soon escalated as people from both sides became involved. A video purportedly recorded inside the court complex shows the parties exchanging punches and slaps. A man accompanying Priya is also seen striking Manish.

Police personnel stationed at the premises intervened after hearing the commotion and brought the situation under control.

Priya later approached Kotwali police, alleging that she had also received death threats after pursuing the case.

Dharmendra Singh, Station House Officer of Kotwali Maharajganj, said police had registered a case against two people and arrested both in connection with the incident. “The police are investigating the matter,” he said.

The couple had reportedly been embroiled in a dispute since soon after their marriage. Police were examining the allegations, the video footage and the events that led to the clash.
