Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra will aim to reclaim the Commonwealth Games title when he takes the field in the final of the men’s javelin throw event alongside compatriots Rohit Yadav and Yashvir Singh tonight in Glasgow (Scotland). Gusty winds foiled the automatic qualifications hopes of the contenders in the qualifying event held at the Scotstoun Stadium on Thursday.

None of the 12 finalists who have qualified managed to cross or even touch the automatic qualification mark of 84m with Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage being the closest with a throw of 82.84m as he also topped round. Chopra finished fifth with a throw of 79.61m while Rohit Yadav (78.37m) and Yashvir Singh (78.36m) ended the qualification in ninth and 10th positions respectively.
Chopra won the gold medal at CWG 2018.
