Days after Ajit Agarkar-led Indian men’s selection committee announced ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming home series against West Indies, a report claims that BCCI is set to replace the current chairman with Parthiv Patel expected to take over.
Agarkar first took charge in 2023, and it appears he may have headed his final selection meeting. Patel, who is currently with IPL franchise Gujarat Titans as their batting coach, is said to have been on BCCI’s radar as the cricket board has been preparing for life without Agarkar.
As per timesofindia.com, Patel’s appointment could be made official in the upcoming days.
The development comes days after a BCCI review meeting which Agarkar didn’t attend, raising eyebrows. The meeting, held at the board’s headquarters in Mumbai, was attended by coach Gautam Gambhir, Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill, T20I captain Shreyas Iyer, Centre of Excellence head VVS Laxman.
“You had everyone available there. It’s not every day you get the key figures of Indian cricket under the same roof…So it was a bit strange that the chairman of the men’s senior selection committee wasn’t there when key issues were on the table. It just doesn’t add up,” TOI quoted a source as saying.
