Schools Closed: Schools across the entire district, including Bihar’s capital Patna, have been closed until June 20. The district administration took this decision to protect children from the scorching heat. On June 14, Patna District Magistrate Dr. Tyagarajan S.M. issued an order immediately suspending classes up to the fifth grade in all schools in the district.

The order stated, “The high temperatures prevailing in the district, especially the intense afternoon heat, are likely to adversely affect the health and lives of children. I, Thyagarajan S.M., District Magistrate, Patna, under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Services Code, 2023, hereby completely ban the academic activities of classes up to Class 5 in all private/government schools (including pre-schools) in the district till 20.06.2026 and the academic activities of classes 6 to 8 after 10:30 am. The school managements are directed to reschedule the academic activities in accordance with the aforementioned order.”

Time change for classes sixth to eighth:

According to the administration’s directive, the timings for classes 6 to 8 have also been changed. These classes will now be conducted only until 10:30 am. The order clearly states that the rising temperatures and heatwave conditions could adversely affect children’s health, and this decision has been taken as a precautionary measure.

Patna is currently experiencing intense heat. The Meteorological Department predicts that temperatures could reach around 39 degrees Celsius on June 16. Maximum temperatures could exceed 40 degrees Celsius on June 17 and 18. On June 19, it is expected to be partly cloudy, but temperatures could still reach 38 degrees Celsius. This decision has been taken in the interest of children due to the rising temperatures.
