Several dozen protesters gathered outside the White House on Tuesday as US President Donald Trump met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for a private dinner.

Demonstrators, many wearing Palestinian keffiyeh scarves and waving Palestinian flags, stood behind security fencing near the presidential residence. They carried placards with messages such as “Stop Arming Israel”, “Say No to Genocide”, and “War Criminal Netanyahu Not Welcomed in the People’s House”.

Chants accusing Netanyahu of “genocide” echoed through the streets as protesters demanded his arrest. The demonstration referenced the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant issued against the Israeli leader over alleged war crimes in Gaza.

Visuals of the protest, showing people gathered near the security barricades and waving banners, were widely shared on social media platforms.

The protest took place as Trump hosted Netanyahu for dinner amid growing international calls for a ceasefire in Gaza. The dinner also coincided with indirect negotiations in Qatar between Israeli and Hamas representatives, aimed at securing a 60-day halt in fighting. The proposed deal includes a phased release of hostages, partial Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and talks on ending the conflict.

While Trump has expressed hope that a ceasefire deal could be reached this week, no announcement followed Tuesday’s meeting. His envoy, Steve Witkoff, is expected to join talks in Qatar later this week.

Netanyahu has continued to oppose the idea of a full Palestinian state and insists that Israel must retain security control over Gaza. Hamas, on the other hand, has demanded a full Israeli withdrawal and the release of all Palestinian prisoners in exchange for remaining Israeli hostages.

The war in Gaza began in October 2023, after Hamas attacked southern Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages.

Israel’s military response has since killed over 57,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s health ministry. The conflict has displaced most of Gaza’s population, and UN agencies warn that nearly half a million people are at risk of famine.
