India’s T20I skipper, Suryakumar Yadav was extremely pleased with the performance showcased by his side which resulted in them taking the win over South Africa by 61 runs in the opening game of the four-match series in Durban on Saturday.

Yadav credited the side for sticking to the style of fearless cricket that they have displayed in the last few games and appreciated the team for continuing with the approach even though there were a few moments where things could have gone haywire.

“It’s a good thing we were following the same thing. Didn’t change the brand of cricket. We were playing in the last 2,3 series and very happy to the win,” the Indian skipper said during the post-match presentation ceremony.

The captain also appreciated the hard work that the opening batter, Sanju Samson has put through the years, behind the scenes which now has been paying dividends as strengthens his case to be India’s frontline T20I opening batter with his second consecutive century.

“See the amount of hard work he has done in last so many years playing with India and doing the boring things day in and day out he is eating the fruits of that today and I am very happy the way he is putting the team first,” Suryakumar commented.

The leader of the T20I side lauded Samson’s approach even when he was approaching the century mark where he looked to take on the bowler rather than taking things slow just to secure his milestone. The opener did not look like slowing down even after his century with his aggressive mindset on display throughout his knock.

“He was in 90s and still he was looking to hit a boundary. That’s what you see, a character of a player, what he is thinking right now, there for the team, and that’s what makes him different from everyone,” the captain said.

While India were dominant for most of the game, there were moments where the side were on the backfoot. Following Samson’s knock, none of the middle-order batters like Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh and Axar Patel managed to stick till the end to give the finishing touch to the innings. But the Indian captain does not remain concerned about that he feels that the side were able to get the job done, which is what mattered the most.

“We just want to be fearless in the middle. Even though we lose some wickets is completely fine. We want to bat with one motto and but that’s what we want to look forward to. Even though yeah it is a T20 game, we have 20 overs but if we can get 200 in 17 overs why not?” he concluded.
