Unbeaten Tilak Verma Helps Mumbai Indians Pile On Punjab Kings’ Slump At Dharamshala

Mumbai Indians condemned Punjab Kings‘ to their fifth straight defeat on the trot, thereby extending their wait for a playoff ticket, with a 6-wicket win at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala on Thursday in the IPL 2026 encounter between the sides as Tilak Verma’s unbeaten 75-run knock helped the visitors over the line after Shardul Thakur starred with a four-fer.
PBKS set a MI target of 201 run to win as Prabhsimran Singh’s half-century and a cameo from Azmautllah Omarzai and the Punjab tail helped the hosts to a total of 200/8 in 20 overs, after Shardul Thakur starred for MI with a four-wicket haul.
MI stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah won the coin toss and opted to field first against PBKS as Prabhsimran Singh opened the innings alongside Priyansh Arya as Deepak Chahar started with the new ball for MI.
Bumrah came in to bowl the second over of the game from the other end and was unlucky to see Singh dropped by Dhir at first slip. The opening duo went on to add fifty runs in just over four overs.
Arya was the first wicket to fall on the day as Chahar castled the southpaw after he had made 22 runs off 17 deliveries as Cooper Connolly came in to replace his fallen comrade. The duo put up a steady stand for the second wicket as Prabhsimran went on to bring up another half-century in the ongoing campaign to take PBKS into triple figures.
The opener was sent back to the hut by Shardul Thakur for 57 of 31 deliveries as the Indian all-rounder initiated a flurry of wickets as he went on to remove Shreyas Iyer for 4 runs by before Raja Bawa sent Connolly back for 21 runs.
Shardul made further inroads for MI with the wicket of Suryansh Shedge for 8 runs to cut the PBKS batting order to half their strength. Bosch got his first wicket with the scalp of Shashank Singh for 2 runs off 3 balls before Marco Jansen fell to Shardul for his fourth dismissal of the night.
Azmatullah Omarzai played a brilliant cameo with 37 runs off just 17 balls before Chahar got his man. MI’s woeful showing on the field continued as the unit dropped another couple of chances towards the end of the innings. Xavier Bartlett and Vishnu Vinod remained unbeaten on 15 and 18 runs respectively to take PBKS to the total of 200/8 in 20 Overs.
Mumbai openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickleton started the chase off in fine fashion as they added 61-run partnership for the first wicket before Omarzai removed the latter for 48 runs. Naman fell for just 9 runs to Jansen, before Yuzvendra Chahal removed Rohit for 25 runs.
Tilak Verma steadied the chase with his gritty innings with Sherfane Rutherford for company as the duo nearly helped the side to the 150-run mark before Omarzai interrupted the stand with the scalp of the Windies all-rounder for 20 off 21 balls.
Verma went on to bring up his half-century in timely fashion to help Mumbai to the target with 2 balls and 6 wickets to spare to condemn PBKS to their fifth straight defeat after seven unbeaten games starting out.
