US-Iran War News Live: Britain on Monday said it would provide limited defensive military assistance to Saudi Arabia after Iran-backed Houthi rebels stepped up attacks on the kingdom. Prime Minister Andy Burnham said the Royal Air Force would provide air-to-air refuelling for Saudi aircraft for several weeks, with the arrangement kept under review.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in New York ahead of the UN General Assembly, with President Masoud Pezeshkian expected on Tuesday.

Washington has issued visas to the pair but imposed restrictions on some members of Pezeshkian’s team, including communications staff.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent separately warned that Iranian airlines would face a global “shutdown” from Wednesday under American sanctions. He said foreign providers could face exclusion from the US dollar system if they continued servicing Iranian carriers.

Iraq said it would enforce the US decision against Iranian airlines from Tuesday, with an official warning that countries failing to comply could face sanctions.
