US-Iran War News LIVE: European Countries Plan Naval Effort To Reopen Hormuz; Trump Pushes Back On Sanctions Relief
US-Iran War News Today LIVE Updates: US President Donald Trump on Sunday (local time) announced a major diplomatic breakthrough to end the 100-day conflict in West Asia, declaring that the United States and Iran have reached an agreement and an “immediate and permanent” end to military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon.
“The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
Iran also confirmed the agreement, with Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi saying the deal brought an “immediate end” to the war and that both sides would hold talks within two months aimed at reaching a final settlement. Iran state TV says Tehran forced the US to accept the peace deal.
Gharibabadi said negotiations for a final deal will be held during a 60-day period, after verifying that the USA implemented its commitments under the deal, including ending hostilities, lifting the blockade, and releasing frozen assets. While exact details remain scarce, Iran’s Mehr news agency reported that the United States would release $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets before formal negotiations begin.
However, Israel has fiercely pushed back against the agreement, declaring that any deal brokered by the US would not be binding on Israel. Defence Minister Israel Katz said the Israeli military will not withdraw from occupied territories in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza, and is prepared to respond to any Iranian threat.
