Rbi: Delhi HC dismisses PIL against RBI nod to exchange of Rs 2,000 notes without ID proof | India News – Times of India
The Delhi HC on Monday dismissed a PIL challenging the RBI‘s permission for exchange of Rs 2000 currency notes, withdrawn recently by the Centre, without any identity proof.
“It cannot be said that the decision of the government is perverse or arbitrary or it encourages black money, money laundering, profiteering or abets corruption,” a division bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad said. BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay had filed the plea. The bench noted “it is well settled that decisions taken by the government in relation to economic policies is not ordinarily interfered with by courts, unless manifestly arbitrary”. In his plea, Upadhyay had argued that the exchange of notes without requisition slips and ID proof is arbitrary and irrational.
