NEW DELHI: SpiceJet is no longer under the “enhanced surveillance” of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The regulator in Tuesday said the airline is being taken off that list after 51 spot checks of 23 aircraft, both Boeing 737 and Q400, did not reveal anything “significant” barring “routine nature” findings.

The airline was under the scanner since June 22, 2023, just over a month. While it may no longer be under the regulatory scanner, SpiceJet urgently requires significant fund infusion.
“In view of observations made in the past concerning inadequate maintenance and in view of the incidents during monsoon last year, SpiceJet was placed under enhanced surveillance by DGCA. Accordingly, 51 spot checks were conducted across 11 locations pan India, on the Boeing 737 and Bombardier DHC Q-400 fleet of aircraft, where in a total 23 aircraft were inspected and 95 observations were made by the DGCA teams,” said a senior DGCA official.

“The findings were of routine nature and were not considered significant by DGCA. Suitable maintenance action was taken by the airline to address the findings in accordance with DGCA guidelines. As a consequence, Spicejet has been taken off the enhanced surveillance regime by DGCA,” the official added.
