NEW DELHI: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday slammed Rahul Gandhi and rubbished the Congress leader’s claim that the caste survey in the state was held under the Congress’s pressure.
“His (Rahul) claim that the caste survey in the state was done under pressure from the Congress, is nonsensical. Everybody knows that the initiative was taken by me only. Now, people are taking credit,” Nitish Kumar said.
On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi had claimed that Nitish Kumar was feeling trapped after getting a caste survey conducted under pressure from the Mahagathbandhan partners and the BJP “provided him with a way out.”
“You (people) need to understand that Nitish Kumar was feeling trapped after the Congress and RJD (Mahagathbandhan’s largest constituent) ensured that a caste survey was held. The BJP provided him with a way out,” he said at a rally as part of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
“We do not need Nitish Kumar,” Rahul Gandhi had asserted taking a dig at the chief minister that whenever a little pressure in exerted on him, he takes a U-turn.
Nitish Kumar also claimed that he did not like the INDIA nomenclature of the opposition bloc and had opposed it.
“Frankly speaking, the name (INDIA) given to this alliance was not my choice at all. They decided on their own. Now, I have come back here (NDA). There is no question of going anywhere else,” Nitish said.
Commenting on the opposition bloc, Nitish Kumar said, “They were not doing anything … not even discussing seat sharing.”
