Filmmaker Nikkhil Advani shared how Dharma Productions, led by Yash Johar, spared no expense for Karan Johar’s films like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. He recounted traveling to Egypt with a large crew, even using a chartered plane like a bus to film a song.
In an interview with Digital Commentary, Nikkhil highlighted Yash Johar’s grand vision for his son Karan’s films, explaining how no expense was spared. For Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, a crew of 52 traveled across Egypt to shoot a song, using a Boeing 737 like a bus to move between distant locations. Nikkhil admired Yash Johar’s work ethic, noting his equal respect for everyone, from stars like Shah Rukh Khan to crew members, a value he strives to apply in his own team.

In a past interview with Film Companion, the director shared how K3G exceeded its budget by Rs 30 crore. Yash Johar approved the initial cost estimate but later noted that one set alone surpassed the art budget for the entire film. Despite this, he encouraged the team to proceed, and the final budget reached Rs 54.5 crore.

Nikkhil earlier told Bollywood Hungama how audiences 20 years ago were less concerned about box office figures. He mentioned that Kal Ho Naa Ho was made for Rs 32 crore and, considering inflation, its earnings today would exceed Rs 1000 crore.
