Christopher Nolan, Matt Damon, and Tom Holland are set to visit India for the Mumbai premiere of ‘The Odyssey’ in July. Producer Emma Thomas will join the filmmaker and stars for the event. The event will mark the first time a Nolan movie has premiered in India, giving fans a chance to welcome the team behind one of the year’s biggest releases ahead of its worldwide theatrical release.

Christopher Nolan and ‘The Odyssey’ cast head to Mumbai

Hindustan Times reported that Universal Pictures International announced Mumbai as one of four cities on the film’s promotional tour. London, Paris, and New York will host premieres. Organizers have not revealed the date of the Mumbai event. The premiere in India will take place at PVR Icon IMAX at Phoenix Palladium Mall. Nolan, Thomas, Damon, and Holland are expected to attend. A press release described the visit as a “landmark moment” for the film and India’s entertainment industry.

‘The Odyssey’ follows Homer’s ancient Greek epic

Nolan wrote and directed ‘The Odyssey’, an adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek poem. Damon plays Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, who faces a dangerous journey home after the Trojan War. Anne Hathaway stars as Penelope, Odysseus’ wife, while Holland plays their son, Telemachus. The ensemble includes Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Samantha Morton, Zendaya and Charlize Theron. Thomas and Nolan produced the film through their company, Syncopy. The production used real locations and practical effects to recreate ancient Greece, continuing Nolan’s preference for filming scenes without relying on computer-generated settings.Speaking at the California Adopt-A-Pet Day event on June 6, Damon called it “by far the hardest movie I’ve ever made.” He added that Nolan prefers to shoot scenes for real instead of using green screens or studio substitutes. The film carries a technical distinction. It is the first feature shot entirely with IMAX cameras. That format will play a role in its theatrical presentation, including the Mumbai premiere. ‘The Odyssey’ is scheduled to open in theaters worldwide on July 17. The Mumbai event will place India alongside three premiere destinations as Universal begins the promotional push for Nolan’s film.
