NEW DELHI: The Delhi University on Saturday formed seven-member panel to investigate the ruckus which happened outside Arts Faculty over screening of BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, January 27.
The committee, headed by DU Proctor Rajini Abbi, has been asked to submit its report to Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh by 5 pm on January 30.

The other members of the committee are Professor Ajay Kumar Singh of the Department of Commerce, Professor Manoj Kumar Singh, Joint Proctor, Professor Sanjoy Roy of the Department of Social Work, Professor Rama, Principal of Hansraj College, Professor Dinesh Khattar, Principal of Kirorimal College, and Gaje Singh, Chief Security Officer, it added.
“The Committee may specifically look into the incident of the 27th of January, 2023 which occurred outside the Faculty of Arts and opposite gate No. 4, University of Delhi,” the notification said.
Twenty-four students affiliated with the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) who had gathered at Delhi University’s north campus on Friday for the screening of a controversial BBC documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots were detained by the police.
Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC were imposed near the university’s faculty of arts.
The action came days after a similar ruckus at Jawaharlal Nehru University and Jamia Millia Islamia over the screening of the documentary.
Claiming that the students’ outfits had not sought the administration’s permission, DU’s Proctor Rajni Abbi had said that would not allow the screening.

The Left-affiliated SFI alleged that the screening could not be held as the administration of the government-run varsity disconnected power supply but a QR code with a link to the film was shared with students so that they could watch it on their personal devices.
Jamia Millia Islamia became the centre of a kerfuffle on Wednesday after the SFI’s plans to organise a screening of the documentary were thwarted by the varsity and the police.
Jawaharlal Nehru University also witnessed a ruckus and protests over the screening on Tuesday.
