HYDERABAD: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that in the past eight years, the country has successfully tackled the three major internal security challenges — terrorism in J&K, insurgency in the North East and violence in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas, effectively.
Addressing the IPS probationers passing out of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad on Saturday, the home minister has advised them to prepare themselves to face ‘thematic threats’ such as misinformation war, through multidimensional policing approach to lead the nation successfully towards 100 years of Independence.
Shah also called the ban on Popular Front of India (PFI) as one of the best examples of Indian security agencies working together to strengthen democracy.
“Security agencies across the country worked together in a joint operation against PFI’s activities. We have successfully banned PFI and strengthened our commitment towards democracy. We have zero tolerance towards terrorism and strengthening of security agencies has resulted in significant reduction of terrorist activities,” Amit Shah said.

The union minister was the chief guest at the passing out parade of 74 Regular Recruit (RR) IPS batch from SVPNPA at Hyderabad. The parade comprised 166 IPS officers including 41 women officers and 29 officers from Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives and Mauritius.
Calling the young officers of 74 RR, Amrit Kaal Batch, for passing out during Azadi Ka Amrut Varsh, the minister said, “To be called as a member of Amrit Kaal Batch will be an honor for you forever.”
As expected, the chief guest’s emphasis during the speech was on internal security and the progress made by the country during the 75 years of independence in terms of handling various challenges.
“Internal security has seen several challenges since independence. More than 36,000 police personnel sacrificed their lives in the nation’s service,” Shah said.
Taking a reference to the fact that most of the officers who passed out of the academy on Saturday have technical education background, Amit Shah pointed at the technology mission started by the Prime Minister to equip police officers of all ranks to become tech savvy. “The technology mission will train the police force in tackling new internal security challenges,” the home minister said.
Eight years ago, when the Modi led BJP government came to power, India was the 11th largest economy in the world and now has become the fifth largest economy.
“In 2047 when the nation celebrates 100 years of Independence, we will be a developed country. According to Morgan Stanley we will be the third largest economy by then and without internal security, no country can become a world leader. Your priority should be protection of the weakest of the weak while handling all kinds of challenges that come towards you,” Amit Shah
