NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday defended the action of central investigative agencies and said his government’s fight against corruption will continue. “We will not spare anyone who has looted the country, they will have to pay back,” Prime Minister said in Lok Sabha on Monday.
“Probe agencies are independent and doing their work as Constitution has kept them so.It is for the courts to judge their actions,” Prime Minister said amid increasing attacks by opposition parties over misuse of central probe agencies.
Enforcement Directorate seized just Rs 5,000 crore during Congress rule, but the figure reached Rs 1 lakh crore under our govt,” PM Modi said.
PM Modi’s remarks comes amid ED action against several opposition leaders in the country. In Bihar, the ED is questioning former chief minister Lalu Prasad and his family in alleged land-for-jobs scam. In Jharkhand, the ED arrested JMM leader and former chief minister Hemant Soren in connection with its alleged money laundering probe. In Haryana, former chief miniser Bhupinder Singh Hooda is under ED probe in connection with a land deal case. In Bengal, several Trinamool leaders are facing probe over alleged scams.
