NEW DELHI: Voting for the Srerampur constituency in the Lok Sabha elections is scheduled for May 20, marking the fifth phase of the electoral process. West Bengal will witness voting across all seven phases, spanning from April 19 to June 1, to elect 42 members to the Lok Sabha.
The election results will be announced on June 4, 2024. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal, the TMC won 22 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, while the BJP gained notable momentum with 18 seats.Congress won two seats.
The candidates for the Srerampur Lok Sabha constituency are Kalyan Banerjee from AITC, Dipsita Dhar from CPI(M), and Kabir Shankar Bose from BJP.
In 2019, the Srerampur parliamentary constituency boasted a total of 1,785,472 eligible voters, with 1,401,705 valid votes cast. Kalyan Banerjee of the All India Trinamool Congress clinched victory, becoming the MP for this constituency with a total of 637,707 votes. Debjit Sarkar, the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate, trailed in second place with 539,171 votes, falling short by 98,536 votes.
In 2014, the Srerampur parliamentary constituency boasted a total of 1,624,038 eligible voters. The victory in this seat went to Kalyan Banerjee of the All India Trinamool Congress, who garnered a total of 514,933 votes, securing his position as the Member of Parliament. Tirthankar Ray, the candidate from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), trailed behind with a total of 362,407 votes, losing by a margin of 152,526 votes.
The main parties vying for seats in West Bengal include the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and a coalition of Left Front and Indian National Congress.
The model code of conduct came into effect from March 16 and will continue until the completion of the vote counting process on June 4.
