In the last debate that cost President Joe Biden his candidacy for the election, the age question was hanging on him. Against a faltering and stuttering Biden was a forceful Donald Trump pushing his re-election bid. But now the tables are turned as in tonight’s ABC News debate, as 78-year-old Trump faces 59-year-old Kamala Harris, it is Trump who is now facing questions about age and capacity especially after his rambling in recent press conferences.
Trump’s estranged niece who is a psychologist recently commented that Trump is “dementing” and what he says mostly makes no sense. Case in point, Donald Trump’s appearance at the Economic Club of New York where he was asked what type of legislation he would push to make childcare affordable. In the long reply, Trump at one point said, “Childcare is childcare.” His full reply was: “Well, I would do that, and we’re sitting down, I was somebody, we had Senator Marco Rubio, and my daughter Ivanka was so impactful on that issue. It’s a very important issue, but I think when you talk about the kind of numbers that I’m talking about that because look, childcare is childcare. There’s something, you have to have it in this country, you have to have it.”
Mary Trump said everything he said was gibberish and only the “childcare is childcare” phrase made sense. She called it deeply disturbing that somebody as “unhinged and incoherent as Donald is allowed to run for the presidency in the first place”.
‘Trump’s ramblings are getting worse’
While Mary Trump is a known detractor of the former president, people who worked with him have also noticed how Trump’s ramblings have become worse. Stephanie Grisham who served as Trump’s White House press secretary until the Capitol Riot said Trump’s ramblings are certainly getting worse. “I don’t know if it’s age or some kind of mental decline. I think the media, general public and certainly his supporters have grown desensitized to a man who lies and rambles all the times, and that’s unfortunate.”
‘Trump has more energy than anyone’
Trump was reportedly suffering from PTSD after the attempt on his life in Pennsylvania. As Trump was found watching the assassination attempt clip again and again, his campaign was thrown out of gear. But now ahead of the debate, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung said Trump has more energy and more stamina than anyone in politics. “People know President Trump is the strongest candidate. He has outworked and outpaced Kamala Harris who continues to duck the press. The Democrats and Kamala are the ones who are diminished because of all the hurt they have caused this country,” NYT quoted him as saying.
