Ange Postecoglou’s men seized the lead through Brennan Johnson before doubling their advantage through James Maddison. But Brighton turned the game on its head with strikes from Yakubu Minteh, Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck.

Brighton and Hove Albion rallied from two goals down to stun Tottenham Hotspurs 3-2 at the Amex Stadium on Sunday in the Premier League.

Ange Postecoglou’s men seized the lead through Brennan Johnson before doubling their advantage through James Maddison. But Brighton turned the game on its head with strikes from Yakubu Minteh, Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck.

Tottenham started with Guglielmo Vicario in goal, with Destiny Udogie, Micky Van de Ven, Christian Romero, and Pedro Porro in defence. Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski made up the midfield with Timo Werner, Dominic Solanke and Johnson forward.

Fabian Hurzeler fielded Bart Verbruggen between the sticks, behind his defensive-four of Joel Veltman, Adam Webster, Lewis Dunk and Ferdi Kadioglu. The midfield comprised Carlos Noom Quomah Baleba, Jack Hinshelwood and Rutter, with Minteh and Kaoru Mitoma on either wing. Welbeck was the lone man upfront for the hosts.

The visitors bagged the lead after 25 minutes thanks to a strike from Johnson off a Solanke assist. It was the sixth time the Waleshman had found the back of the net in his last six outings.

Maddison added Spurs’ second in the 37th minute as the Englishman’s shot eluded Verbruggen’s weak attempt to keep the ball out.

But Minteh reduced the deficit in the 48th minute of the game following a terrible Udogie clearance to initiate the turnaround.

Rutter went past three Tottenham players to pull his side back on level terms with the visitors as he put the game back in the balance.

Brighton’s turnaround was complete when former Manchester United and Arsenal striker Welbeck headed the ball into the back of the net to send the Amex into a state of delirium in the 66th minute of the game.

Tottenham’s third defeat in seven league games raised questions about head coach Postecoglou’s adamance to alter his attacking philosophy after the London-based unit’s defensive frailties were unmasked.
