Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh received a threatening WhatsApp voice note demanding crores of rupees, prompting Mumbai Police to step up security outside his residence and launch an investigation to trace the sender, officials said.
The threat was received in the aftermath of the firing incident at filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu, which is currently being probed by the Mumbai Crime Branch.
Ranveer Singh was last seen in the 2025 spy thriller Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar. The film, released in theatres on December 5, 2025, emerged as a major box-office success, grossing over Rs 1,305 crore worldwide. It became the first Indian film to cross Rs 1,000 crore in domestic net collections in a single language, Hindi. Ranveer Singh played the role of Hamza Ali Mazari, in a story centred on covert intelligence operations.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch continues to investigate the firing outside Rohit Shetty’s house. So far, five people- Aman Marote (27), Aditya Gayaki (19), Siddharth Yenpure (20), Samarth Pomaji (18) and Swapnil Sakat (23)- have been arrested in connection with the incident. Lawrence Bishnoi gang member Shubham Lonkar has been named as a wanted accused in the case.
The shooter allegedly used a high-quality country-made weapon and fired five rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition. Police are verifying whether the bullets used were 7.62×39 mm or 7.62×51 mm, based on seized ammunition boxes and forensic reports.
Investigators believe the shooter was not acting alone and suspect the presence of other gang members near the scene. Police are also probing the financial trail linked to the crime.
