Chennai Super Kings recorded their first win of the season with a 23-run victory over Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday, powered by a Sanju Samson century.

CSK, who started the season with three successive defeats to Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, picked up their first points of the season with an all-round performances.

Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad lauded the Chennai crowd for turning up in number as always and edging the home side on despite their initial slump.

“Feels good to finally get that win. Great performance. Chennai fans, they are always there behind us no matter what,” the opener began.

“I’ve seen so many messages, so many good wishes, wherever we go, they are always backing us. They are always supporting us. And that’s what this side of the country is. It is just about lovely people just enjoying the cricket and loving the franchise.”

CSK put up 212 on the board as Samson anchored the innings with an unbeaten 115, while Ayush Mhatre contributed 59 before retiring hurt, leading a strong batting display.

“I always felt that coming here, we have been batting really well, batting first and to post 200-210 when the wicket is slightly on the slower side and still posting that good total, I think we were showing really good signs even the last game which we played here.”

“But as I said, today again it was one of those knocks where Sanju actually took to the opposition, played a magnificent knock, even Ayush played brilliantly,” the captain said.

With the ball, Jamie Overton starred for the hosts with a four-wicket haul, supported by Anshul Kamboj’s impressive three wickets. Tristan Stubbs’ half-century and Pathum Nissanka’s 41 for Delhi went in vain as CSK bowled DC out for 189 in 20 overs.

“Really proud of the bowling effort. We don’t have that X-factor in the bowling attack. We’re trying to use our lengths really well. One or two overs cost us in the last few games,” he concluded.
