Real Madrid have reportedly opened disciplinary proceedings against midfielders Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni after a heated altercation in training that resulted in Valverde requiring hospital treatment.
According to Spanish media, tensions between the two players first emerged during Wednesday’s training session and escalated further on Thursday at the club’s Valdebebas complex.
The confrontation allegedly continued into the dressing room after training, where Valverde sustained a facial injury that needed stitches.
“Following the incidents that occurred this morning during the first team’s training session, [the club] has decided to open disciplinary proceedings against our players Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni,” Los Blancos said in a statement.
Reports indicated that Valverde was taken to a nearby hospital by coach Alvaro Arbeloa after suffering a cut above his eyebrow. Real Madrid later confirmed that the Uruguay international had sustained a head injury but was in “good condition.” He is, however, expected to rest for up to two weeks.
The injury could rule Valverde out of Sunday’s crucial El Clasico against Barcelona, in which Barcelona could clinch the La Liga title.

Valverde later sought to play down speculation about the incident, denying claims that Tchouameni directly caused the injury.
“The strain of the competition and frustration caused the situation to escalate,” he wrote on Instagram stories, expressing regret over the media coverage of the incident.
“I accidentally hit a table during the argument, causing a small cut on my forehead that required a routine visit to the hospital,” he said.
“At no point did my teammate hit me, and I didn’t hit him either.”
The reported fallout comes during a turbulent period for Madrid, who are facing the prospect of a second consecutive trophyless season. Tensions in the dressing room have intensified in recent weeks amid reports of disagreements involving multiple players and staff members.
Meanwhile, uncertainty also surrounds Kylian Mbappe, whose fitness and off-field conduct have recently come under increased scrutiny.
