On May 11, 2026, Dr Abhay Daga, his wife, and child boarded a Vietnam Airlines flight VN981 from Hanoi to Delhi in business class. Instead of receiving the premium welcome expected, the family says staff stopped them at the aerobridge, mocked them, and questioned whether they truly “belonged” in business class, leaving them humiliated and deeply disappointed.
Dr Daga shared on X that his child was left asking why the staff spoke to them with disrespect. He called the treatment “vile” and demanded a formal apology and investigation.
The post quickly went viral, with many users accusing the airline of racism and sharing similar experiences. Some even said they would cancel upcoming trips after reading his account.
Dear @VietnamAirlines, this is beyond unacceptable. On 11 May 2026, my family of 3 flew Business Class on flight VN981 from Hanoi (HAN) to Delhi (DEL). Instead of a premium experience, your ground staff subjected us to blatant discrimination and humiliation. 🧵👇— Dr Abhay Daga (@drabhaydaga) May 18, 2026
Vietnam Airlines has not responded yet, but anger online keeps rising as passengers demand accountability, transparency, and improved staff training to prevent such discriminatory behaviour in the future.
Many users voiced strong criticism after the doctor’s post. One wrote, “Unfortunate truth is that brown skin always faces the risk of racism in white countries. We need a clear notification from your end about what steps or action you have taken against the employee.” Another demanded accountability, saying, “A public apology must be published from the concerned person. This incident sets a wrong notion and tarnishes the image you have created amongst the public.”
Others reminded the airline of its reputation, with one comment stressing, “Hey Vietnam Airlines, your country is known for hospitality, culture, and this is highly unexpected. I hope you fix this quickly and revert back with proper resolution.” Together, these reactions reflect the anger and disappointment of passengers who expect better treatment and transparency.
