Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rome on Tuesday as part of the final leg of his five-nation foreign tour.
During the visit, India and Italy are expected to work towards upgrading bilateral ties into a special strategic partnership. Prime Minister Modi was warmly received at the airport by Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani.
Sharing details of the arrival, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the visit would add fresh momentum to relations between the two countries.
“India and Italy share a longstanding and multifaceted partnership. The visit is set to add new momentum to the India-Italy partnership,” Jaiswal said.

Giorgia Meloni welcomes PM Modi
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also welcomed Narendra Modi after his arrival in Italy.
In a social media post, Meloni wrote, “Welcome to Rome, my friend!” while sharing a photograph with the Indian Prime Minister.
The visit comes at a time when both countries are seeking to strengthen cooperation under the India-Italy Strategic Partnership framework.
Indian diaspora greets PM
After arriving in Rome, Prime Minister Modi met members of the Indian diaspora and others gathered outside the hotel where he is staying.
Videos and visuals from the venue showed enthusiastic crowds welcoming the Prime Minister during his visit to the Italian capital.
The interaction with the Indian community formed part of the ceremonial welcome during Modi’s stay in Rome.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi was also presented with a painting depicting the ghats of Varanasi.

The artwork reflected the cultural and spiritual significance of the city, which is also the Prime Minister’s parliamentary constituency.
