SpiceJet’s early morning advisory over Mumbai rain disruption has drawn sceptical reactions from flyers.

SpiceJet has issued a travel advisory for Mumbai (BOM), warning that heavy rain could disrupt departures, arrivals and connecting flights, and urging passengers to track their flight status closely. The advisory comes as forecasters flag intermittent heavy to moderate showers across Mumbai and its suburbs over the next two days.

The airline’s warning, posted on X, comes a day after IndiGo issued a similar advisory — not for Mumbai, but for Kolkata, where the Alipore Meteorological Department raised an orange alert following torrential rain in the city and adjoining districts. IndiGo’s Monday advisory cited possible delays and asked flyers to check their flight status and allow extra travel time.

As of this report, IndiGo has issued no corresponding advisory for Mumbai. Air India and Mumbai airport have also not put out any weather-related advisory for the city, prompting some flyers to question the inconsistency on social media.

Why Has Only SpiceJet Issued A Mumbai Advisory?

It isn’t immediately clear why IndiGo, Air India and the Mumbai airport haven’t followed SpiceJet in flagging possible disruptions.

The gap has drawn attention on X, with one user remarking (in Hindi-English) that SpiceJet cancels flights even without rain — a comment reflecting a degree of scepticism among flyers about the airline’s own advisory.

How Bad Is The Mumbai Rain Expected To Get?

Weather trackers on X point to a fresh spell of rain over the city and its suburbs. One forecaster noted that an upper air cyclonic circulation over Indore and Madhya Pradesh is tracking westwards, pulling moisture in from the Arabian Sea and bringing rainy conditions to the Konkan and western Maharashtra region through the week, with rain expected to pick up around Tuesday.

Another weather-tracking account projected intermittent heavy to moderate showers over Mumbai and surrounding areas for the next two days.

Which Areas Are Likely To See The Heaviest Showers?

Localised weather updates flagged moderate showers across the city and suburbs, with Andheri, Bandra, Kurla, Chembur, Powai, Borivali, Mulund, Santacruz, Worli and Colaba named as areas to watch, along with Thane, Navi Mumbai and Vasai-Virar.

Higher-intensity rain is possible in low-lying spots, with the customary advisories on waterlogged roads and travel caution.
