About the Author:

Aidah Azhar is an author and Healing & Life Transformation Coach whose work is deeply rooted in emotional healing, self-awareness, inner strength, and conscious transformation. Through her writing, sessions, talks, and reflective work, she helps people understand the emotional patterns, childhood wounds, silent pain, and inner beliefs that shape the way they live, love, respond, and see themselves. Her work often speaks to those who have felt unheard, misunderstood, emotionally burdened, or labelled before being understood. With a compassionate yet powerful voice, Aidah writes about pain, personality, healing, self-respect, women’s inner strength, and the journey of returning to oneself. In YOU WERE A KID, she turns her attention toward parents, teachers, caregivers, and every adult who influences a child’s emotional world. This book carries a simple but powerful reminder: before we label a child, we must remember that we were also children once. Aidah believes that children need correction, discipline, and guidance — but not shame, comparison, fear, or emotional humiliation. Her writing invites adults to pause, listen, understand, and guide children with dignity. Through this book, she hopes to inspire more emotionally safe homes, more compassionate classrooms, and more aware adults who can see the child behind the behaviour.

Exclusive interview with the author

Q: What Inspired You To Write This Book?

A: I wrote this book from a deep observation that many children are labelled before they are understood. Words like difficult, lazy, stubborn, naughty, dramatic, or weak are often used quickly, but very few people pause to ask what the child is feeling inside. As adults, we often forget that we were also children once. We also needed listening, patience, and correction without shame. This book was born from that reminder.

Q: Can You Tell Us About The Book?

A: YOU WERE A KID is a reflective book for parents, teachers, caregivers, and every adult who shapes a child’s emotional world. The book invites adults to look beyond behaviour and understand the child behind it. It is not against discipline. It speaks about discipline with dignity, correction with connection, and guidance without emotional damage. The core message is simple: before you label a child, remember the child you once were.

Q: What Does The Title Mean?

A: The title YOU WERE A KID is a reminder to every adult. Before we blame, label, compare, shame, or correct a child harshly, we must remember that we were also children once. We also made mistakes. We also had feelings we could not explain. We also wanted someone to listen before judging us. The title asks adults to return to compassion before correction.

Q: What Did You Learn When Writing The Book?

A: While writing this book, I learned that children do not always express pain through words. Sometimes they express it through silence, anger, refusal, fear, or attention-seeking behaviour. I also learned that many adults do not hurt children intentionally; they often repeat what they experienced in their own childhood. Writing this book reminded me that awareness can break patterns, and one safe adult can make a deep difference in a child’s life.

Q: What, In Your Opinion, Are The Most Important Elements Of Good Writing?

A: For me, good writing needs honesty, emotional depth, clarity, and purpose. A writer should not only write beautiful words; the writing should touch something real inside the reader. Good writing should make people pause, think, feel, and see life differently. I believe writing becomes powerful when it carries truth with simplicity.

Q: What Advice Would You Give To Aspiring Authors?

A: My advice to aspiring authors is to write from truth, not pressure. Do not wait for perfect confidence. Start with one honest thought, one page, one experience, one message. Writing is not only about language; it is about courage. Be consistent, be patient, and do not compare your journey with anyone else. If your words can touch even one heart, they already have value.
