An Interview with Author DR AKHIL PAUL | “THE LAND OF NO RETURN”

About the Author:

Dr Akhil Paul is a well known Pulmonologist working in Thrissur. He is famous as an innovative and interventional pulmonologist, a good academician, an author of medical and non medical books , as well as a cricket player. His ‘Lost Angels’, an investigational thriller novel based on a serial killings had received acclamation from readers around the world. Simple language and ease of story-telling are the highlights of his writings. Here he brings another investigational thriller- ‘The Land of no return’.

Q: What Inspired You To Write This Book?

A:The story of the arrest of ‘The Golden State Killer’ by DNA analysis , that too after so many years, was the inspiration for this novel. Especially the lines in ‘Science’ journal about the case- “If you’re white, live in the United States, and a distant relative has uploaded their DNA to a public ancestry database, there’s a good chance an internet sleuth can identify you from a DNA sample you left somewhere.”

Q: What Does The Title Mean?

A: In our life, sometime we get entangled to some places by fate or by choice. How much ever hard we try, we still remain imprisoned in that place. Our body might manage to escape from the maze, but mind…

Q: How Long Does It Take You To Write A Book?

A: Preparatory phase is the longest. Once an idea is conceived, it need to be thought upon nurtured.. Read about the place where the story is happening, their traditions, culture, geography of the land etc. Because the story needs to be convincing. Then again while writing, some new plots or strong characters might evolve. Then I need to stop and give a few days of thought on that. so once started writing, it might take about four to six months to complete the novel.

Q:When Did You Write Your First Book And How Old Were You?

A: I used to write stories, when I was in my school. My first novel which was published in a magazine was ‘Bernard – The Great’. It was published in my mother’s school magazine when I was 13 years old. ‘Lost Angels’ was my first ‘published’ novel in it’s real sense. It was in 2020 and I was 34 years old then.

Q:What Does Success Mean To You? What Is The Definition Of Success?

A: Once we are gone, it doesn’t matter who we are or where we are. All that matters, is what we did and how it affected the people around us. So if at least a few people get inspired from my work and nurture their talent and present it to the world, then that is success for me.
