BJP’s Satish Patel retained Gujarat’s Manjalpur Assembly seat, defeating Congress’ Bhikhabhai Rabari by 30,630 votes in the by-election.

Satish Patel Retains Manjalpur For BJP With Convincing 30,630-Vote Win.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retained the Manjalpur Assembly constituency in Gujarat on Monday, with its candidate Satendrabhai Govindbhai Patel, popularly known as Satish Patel, registering a comfortable victory over the Congress in the by-election.
According to the Election Commission’s results, Satish Patel secured 55,481 votes, defeating Congress candidate Bhikhabhai Rabari by a margin of 30,630 votes. Rabari polled 24,851 votes, while 2,247 voters opted for NOTA.
The bypoll was held after the death of sitting BJP MLA Yogesh Patel, who had represented the constituency for multiple terms. His passing led to the vacancy in the 145-Manjalpur Assembly seat in Vadodara district, prompting the Election Commission to conduct the by-election.
The result ensures that the BJP retains one of its traditional strongholds in Gujarat. The party has held the Manjalpur seat since the constituency came into existence following the 2008 delimitation, with the late Yogesh Patel winning successive Assembly elections in 2012, 2017 and 2022. In the 2022 Assembly polls, he had won the seat by a margin of more than one lakh votes.
Polling for the by-election was held on July 30, with the constituency recording a 37.5 per cent voter turnout, significantly lower than the turnout recorded during the 2022 Assembly election. Votes were counted on August 3.
With the victory, Satish Patel succeeds the late Yogesh Patel as the BJP legislator from Manjalpur, reinforcing the party’s dominance in the Vadodara region.
